NFL Round-Up: Week Three

Week Three of the NFL season is officially in the books. Is everyone happy with the outcomes? Good. Because I'm not. I'm not going to get into details exactly, but I'm not happy with my favorite football teams right now and I would be counting down the days to basketball season....but my Portland Trailblazers are set to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season.

I see a lot of this in my future.

Anyway. It's time to get to the goods.

So.......

Sit back........

Grab a beer............

Put the kids outside...........

Tell the wife to leave you alone.........

IT'S TIME............................................

NFL Round-Up

Week 3

The Scoreboard
(A recap of all the action from the past week in the NFL....)

*Due to time restraints, the Monday Night Football games are not included in The Scoreboard

Washington Redskins (1-2): 21    New York Giants (1-2): 32

Another ugly game in the NFC East, a division that is quickly establishing itself as the worst one in the NFL. The good news for Giants fans is, when this guy isn't around.....

....the Giants seem to play much better. Even though the Giants still don't have a run game, Eli and the wide receivers were able to put the team on it's back and carry them to a victory. The Redskins definitely blew this opportunity to take a nice lead in the division, but isn't that what the Redskins do these days? Disappoint everyone? Eli and company need to take these wins when they get them though. The Giants just aren't a very good football team and are extremely one-dimensional.

Atlanta Falcons (3-0): 39     Dallas Cowboys: (2-1): 28

The Atlanta Falcons are 3-0 and now have a 76% chance of making the playoffs....

I know. I wouldn't believe it either if I hadn't seen it myself, but it's the truth. Devonta Freeman ran all over the Cowboys defense (it's hard to stop NFL rushers when you can't predict their plays, isn't it Sean Lee?) and the Falcons continue to roll. Looking ahead at the Falcons schedule (it's not that difficult), something tells me it wouldn't be a shocker if these guys made the playoffs. As for the Cowboys, this is what happens when Tony Romo is in a shoulder sling on the sidelines and not in the game. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE, LEAVE ROMO ALONE! THE GUY IS GOOD AND DALLAS WOULD BE 3-0 RIGHT NOW IF HE WASN'T HURT!!!!

Indianapolis Colts (1-2): 35     Tennessee Titans (1-2): 33

The Colts finally get their first win of the season and by the skin of their teeth. I think the big story coming out of this game though is how impressive Marcus Mariota once again looked. As avid readers of this blog know, I'm a huge Marcus Mariota guy and I was pretty sure he was going to be a successful NFL QB. But I'm not going to lie to you guys. His play thus far has taken even me by surprise. Mariota once again put up fantastic numbers against Indianapolis, in a shoot out game with Andrew Luck. Look, I'm as big of an Andrew Luck fan as you're going to find, but Mariota has looked better than Luck so far this year and that continued with this game here. Even though the Colts got the win (despite Luck once again playing very average), the Titans have to be pleased with not only what they've seen from Mariota so far this season, but also what they've seem from the team as a whole. The Titans look much improved from last season and something tells me the Colts winning the AFC South isn't as much a foregone conclusion as it was at the beginning of the season. Remember the Titans. They are officially here.

Oakland Raiders (2-1): 27      Cleveland Browns (1-2): 20

The Cleveland Browns are not a good football team, we all know that. But this was a huge win for an Oakland Raiders team that doesn't have a whole lot of "winnable games" on their schedule. The best part about this Browns team is their defense and this young Raiders offense came in and shredded them up. Derek Carr had a big game against Cleveland's secondary (314 passing yards with 2 TD's) and now he needs to carry that momentum into next week's game against the Bears. The Raiders have a legit chance to open up the season 3-1 before the real difficult part of their schedule begins. Something tells me "Raider Nation" would take that in a heart beat. As for the Browns. Here's some game tape for you guys to review that should help you improve next week...

Cincinnati Bengals (3-0): 28    Baltimore Ravens (0-3): 24

Cincinnati may very well be the best team in the NFL. I don't know. I'm not fully ready to attach my wagon to a team quarterbacked by Andy Dalton, but I have the hitch at least half way on at this point. As for the Ravens, my own personal Super Bowl pick this year? I'm sorry. I have apparently jinxed you guys and somehow turned you from Super Bowl contender to first overall draft pick contender. I hope Ravens fans enjoy college football this year, because apparently the best player in college football will be on your football team next season. I have lost all faith in Baltimore now.

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2): 17    New England Patriots (3-0): 51

The New England Patriots are the best team in the NFL right now. Isn't that right Tom?

At this rate, there's going to be another ring on those hands in five months. How's that taste "Deflate-gaters"?

New Orleans Saints (0-3): 22     Carolina Panthers (3-0): 27

The Saints are a horrible football team.

The Panthers are a good football team.

When they met on the football field, the Panthers beat the Saints.

See, this is how the NFL should work.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-2): 24     New York Jets (2-1): 17

The Eagles were in desperate need of a win after coming out flat the first two weeks of the season. Unfortunately for them, they were left with the difficult task of turning around an absolute train wreck (their offense) against one of the NFL's best defensive units. Most of the NFL experts were predicting the Jets to come out and put a whooping on the Eagles this weekend. That's not exactly what happened. The Eagles used a combination of Darren Sproles and their defense to escape from New York with their first victory of the season. This was definitely a hard-fought game from both teams. Sam Bradford continued to look like garbage, but Philly was finally able to run the ball and as we all know with Chip Kelly teams. If they can run the ball, they'll usually walk away with a victory. Ryan Mathews finally stepped up to the plate and with a little help from Sproles, they were finally able to give the Eagles their first victory of the season.

Oh, you thought the Eagles were going to go win-less this season and Chip would get fired?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-2): 9     Houston Texans (1-2): 19

San Diego Chargers (1-2): 14    Minnesota Vikings (2-1): 31

San Diego is a banged up football team right now and they don't look good at all. Fortunately for Chargers fans, things get a little easier on the schedule soon. Minus an October 18th showdown at Lambeau field against the Packers, San Diego has a schedule that could easily see them going 5-0. So don't hit the panic button just yet Chargers fans. You're still in it for now.

Minnesota is also in it apparently. However, they face the juggernaut that is known as the Denver Broncos next week and then draw the Kansas City Chiefs after that. The heat is about to get turned up for Minnesota and we are going to see if these guys are for real or not within the next few weeks. What do you think?

Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1): 12     St. Louis Rams (1-2): 6

Did you watch this game? If so, I apologize...because it wasn't pretty (St. Louis' offense is awful). The big news to come out of this game of course was the injury to Ben Roethlisberger. St. Louis is a pretty damn good defensive football team and the juggernaut Steelers offense was already treading water with "Big Ben" in the game. When he went down with an injury, it was up to this man to lead "Steeler Nation" to victory....

That's right, Michael Vick came into the game, and actually didn't play that bad considering the circumstances. When I say "Michael Vick didn't play that bad", that shouldn't be taken as a compliment. Vick was asked to step in against a ferocious St. Louis defense and played good enough (meaning he didn't turn the ball over) to give the Steelers their second victory of the season. All I know is, with "Big Ben" missing the next 6-8 weeks of action, the Steelers playoff chances just took a huge hit. I still love the Steelers offensive weapons, but it's something when you have to ask the 2015 Michael Vick to lead your team to victory on a week-to-week basis and that something isn't good.

San Francisco 49ers (1-2): 7     Arizona Cardinals (3-0): 47

What the hell did the 49ers do to piss off the Cardinals? I don't know, but when Bruce Arians and his boys met the 49ers on the football field today. It went a little something like this.....

Seriously though. What an absolutely embarrassing effort by the 49ers here. I mean, I knew they weren't going to be a good football team coming into the season this year, but this performance was just awful. Everyone affiliated with this team should be ashamed. The Cardinals look like one of the best teams in the NFC after the first three weeks of the season though. If Carson Palmer can manage to stay healthy this season, the sky might be the ceiling for this team. I'm buying a lot of Arizona stock right now. GIVE IT TO ME!

Buffalo Bills (2-1): 41     Miami Dolphins (1-2): 14

The Buffalo Bills are a much better football team than we originally thought. Are they a playoff team? They sure look that way. Buffalo hasn't been to the playoffs in a long time, but Rex Ryan has these guys playing as good as any other team in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Dolphins suck and need to fire Joe Philbin now. Seriously. Miami has a pretty talented roster and there's no reason they should be getting whipped around like this. A lot of people say that NFL teams like to take the identity of their head coach. Apparently, that rings pretty true considering the Bills look like a rough house kind of team and the Dolphins just look soft.

Chicago Bears (0-3): 0     Seattle Seahawks (1-2): 26

You know how you know your NFL team sucks ass? When you get shut out on offense in today's NFL. Thaere's just no reason the Bears should be getting shut out on offense when today's NFL kickers can kick 90 yard field goals.

Wait.

What's that?

Jimmy Clausen's the Bears QB right now?

Ya, forgot about that part.....

Denver Broncos (3-0): 24     Detroit Lions (0-3): 12

The Broncos keep on rolling, and the Lions keep on sinking. Remember last week when I said it was a real possibility that the Lions open up the season 0-5 before the first winnable game appears on their schedule? That's not only a real possibility, but I'm willing to bet serious money it happens (Lions next two games are @ Seattle and then against the undefeated Arizona Cardinals). Detroit is screwed. As for the Broncos, they don't look ready to give up their "Kings of the AFC West" title quite yet and they appear ready to blast the doors off the rest of the NFL. This team is just ridiculous on the defensive side of the ball, it's almost not even fair to the rest of the NFL. This could be the year Peyton Manning rides off into the sunset with a Broncos Super Bowl ring in the same fashion that John Elway did.

Excuse me real quick.....
