IT'S TIME............................................

NFL Round-Up

Week 6

The Scoreboard
(A recap of all the action from the past week in the NFL....)

*Due to time restraints, the Monday Night Football games are not included in The Scoreboard

It's a "GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS" kind of week here at THE Ultimate Sports Blog.....

Atlanta Falcons (5-1): 21    New Orleans Saints (2-4): 31

Good News for the Falcons: The Falcons just lost their first game of the season, but IT'S ONLY THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON! No reason at all to start panicking in Atlanta. The Falcons are a much better football team than anyone thought they were going to be anyway and they'll be fine. Losing to a divisional rival in a road game on a short week is nothing to be ashamed of.

Bad News for the Falcons: YOU JUST LOST YOUR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON! Going undefeated is out of the picture. Sorry, try again.

Good News for the Saints: Everyone was ready to bury the Saints a few weeks ago. However, after a big win over a previously undefeated team....people are putting their shovels away. Maybe the Saints aren't quite ready to lay over and die just yet?

Bad News for the Saints: Reports came out this week that the USC Trojans may have some interest in Saints head coach Sean Payton and the feeling may be mutual. According to the reports, Payton may be ready to move on from New Orleans. If that's the case, that's awful news for the Saints as I personally believe Payton is one of the best head coaches in the league. There's a reason USC has some interest in the guy. If Payton leaves New Orleans, who's out there that's better? Good luck Saints fans. This coming off-season could be miserable.

Kansas City Chiefs (1-5): 10     Minnesota Vikings (3-2): 16

Good News for the Chiefs: There is just a little over two and a half months left in the regular season before it's time to start researching who the top pick in the NFL Draft is going to be.

Bad News for the Chiefs: The Chiefs are garbage right now. After losing Jamaal Charles for the season last week, it's time for them to call it a season. Fire Andy Reid and his staff and bring in someone who can bring some juice to this offense. Unfortunately you're stuck with Alex Smith for another year, but who says he can't be the most expensive back-up QB in the NFL for just one season? We are in the third season of the "Andy Reid/Alex Smith" experiment in Kansas City and frankly it isn't working.

Good News for the Vikings: The Vikings continue to look like a top 10 team to me. Yes, they have their highs and lows, but what NFL team doesn't? I expect Minnesota to quietly sneak into the playoffs this year. This was a big win for the Vikings if they wanted to stay in the divisional race with Green Bay and they got it.

Bad News for the Vikings: The Packers are really good. How's that wildcard spot looking?

Washington Redskins (2-4): 20     New York Jets (4-1): 34

Good News for the Redskins:

Bad News for the Redskins: You're just bad enough to end up with a top 10 pick in the NFL draft, but I don't think your team is bad enough to score the first overall pick and that's truly the pick the Redskins want. Why? Because they need a QB and as of right now, it looks like next year's draft class has only one franchise QB and that's Jared Goff. Chances are he'll be long gone by the time the Redskins pick. Unless of course, Washington decides to not win a game the rest of the season.

Good News for the Jets: I don't know how the Jets are doing it, but they continue to win. It seems like every year we see a team with a new head coach that comes out of nowhere and has a great season. That's the New York Jets this year. Don't be shocked if these guys make the playoffs, especially if they keep playing football they way they have been.

Bad News for the Jets: You're still the Jets and even if you get to the playoffs, how far can you go with Ryan Fitzpatrick or Geno Smith at QB? If I was a Jets fan, I would hesitate to get too excited about this season because I can see it all blowing up in January if the Jets get to the post-season.

Arizona Cardinals (4-2): 13      Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2): 25

Good News for the Cardinals: Bruce Arians is a good coach and the Cardinals have one of the best rosters in the league. These guys will be fine. Beating Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh is a tough task, regardless of who the QB is. The Steelers still have a lot of talent.

Bad News for the Cardinals: You can't beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. After losing to them in the Super Bowl a few years back, it was time for the Cardinals to exact some revenge on the Steelers, but alas...it's just not meant to be! I don't care who you face in the post-season Arizona, but as long as it's not the Steelers, I'll give you a chance.

Good News for the Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger is even CLOSER to returning and yet, the team keeps winning! Everyone thought "Big Ben" was going to have to come back from injury and end up saving the Steelers season, but at this point, he might be returning just in time to help the Steelers secure a top spot in the AFC playoff race. Some teams have it good and the Steelers are one of those teams.

Bad News for the Steelers: This game was just weird. Landry Jones came in when Michael Vick got injured and actually looked good. Martavis Bryant came back from suspension and now looks like a clone of Antonio Brown. Was it luck? Probably. Pittsburgh fans shouldn't expect those kind of performances out of those guys every week. Especially Jones.

Cincinnati Bengals (6-0): 34    Buffalo Bills (3-3): 21

Good News for the Bengals: YOU'RE STILL UNDEFEATED!

Bad News for the Bengals: No matter how good the Bengals do this off-season, everyone is going to be doubting these guys until January. The Bengals post-season struggles are no secret and if they go 16-0 in the regular season, even the most hardcore Bengals fan will be sweating once the playoffs arrive. If they say they aren't, they're lying. Trust me, I know. I'm a Chiefs fan. I've seen two seasons where the Chiefs have started out 8-0 and 9-0 and lost in the first-round of the playoffs. It's a brutal cycle.

Good News for the Bills: It's going to hurt me to say this....but E.J. Manuel actually played decent for you guys this week. The former first-round pick was asked to play for the injured Tyrod Taylor, and actually played quite well. He was 28 of 42 with 263 yards passing with 1 TD and 1 interception. Not exactly great, but by Manuel's standards....it was excellent.

Bad News for the Bills: What is going on with this defense? Going into this season, the Bills had one of the best defenses on paper. However, these guys just haven't been playing up to their potential. While the Rex Ryan hire looked good a few weeks ago, a lot of people are starting to scratch their heads while the Bills struggle...especially with the New York Jets looking as good as they've been.

Chicago Bears (2-4): 34    Detroit Lions (1-5): 37

Good News for the Bears: Alshon Jeffery returned this week!

Bad News for the Bears: You just lost to the Lions after two straight victories against AFC West opponents. May I also mention that the Lions were WINLESS before you lost to them? Ya, not a good look for a Chicago team that was on a little bit of a roll lately.

Good News for the Lions: YOU GOT YOUR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON!!!!!

Bad News for the Lions: YOU STILL SUCK!!!!!!!

Denver Broncos (6-0): 26    Cleveland Browns (2-4): 23

Good News for the Broncos: YOU'RE STILL UNDEFEATED AND YOUR DEFENSE IS AMAZING!

Bad News for the Broncos: I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but Peyton Manning's arm is shot and Denver's offense is anemic. You want to know the reason these guys are undefeated? Because like I said earlier, their defense is amazing. They already had some of the best defensive personnel in the game and they went ahead and added arguably the best defensive coordinator (Wade Phillips) in the off-season and it's been magical ever since. But can the Broncos rely on their defense to continiously shut people down and score points off of turnovers while their offense sputters along? I doubt it, especially come playoff time.

Good News for the Browns: Ummm, you only lost by 3 points to the Broncos?

Bad News for the Browns: Once again, last year's first-round draft pick Johnny Manziel found himself in some hot water this weekend when he was pulled over by cops after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Now, he wasn't actually arrested as the cops determined he wasn't inebriated at the time, but there were also rumors involving some sort of dispute between Manziel and his girlfriend in the car. This is not good for Johnny "Football" who served time in rehab during the off-season due to problems with alcohol. Is it time for Cleveland to cut ties with Manziel yet? They obviously have no desire to play him and the kid just can't seem to stay away from the booze. Trade him or cut him already Cleveland. Hell, trade him to Kansas City. At this point, I'll take anything as long as it's entertaining.

Houston Texans (1-4): 0     Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4): 0

Miami Dolphins (2-3): 38    Tennessee Titans (1-4): 10

Good News for Dolphins: This was a big win for a Miami team that really needed it. After firing head coach Joe Philbin, the Dolphins now look a little rejuvenated under interim head coach Dan Campbell. The defense FINALLY showed up for the first time this season and the offense was actually able to do stuff as well (LAMAR MILLER FINALLY HAD A GOOD GAME!!!) and it resulted in a nice win over the Titans.

Bad News for Dolphins: Tennessee is not a real good football team, and you probably should have beat them even if Philbin was still around. We'll really see how good this team is under Campbell when they have to play @ New England on October 29 on just 4 days rest. Oh, and the schedule doesn't get any easier after that. Miami then has to travel to Buffalo and Philadelphia, then come home for a game against a Cowboys team that could have Romo back, and then travel to play a Jets team that looks surprisingly good so far. We are really going to know what Dan Campbell and this team is made of by the end of November. My guess? Not good.

Good News for Titans: Marcus Mariota got hit with a cheap shot during the game and injured his knee. At first glance, it looked pretty bad. Fortunately, it sounds like it's not that serious and Mariota may either be sidelined for a few weeks or will be playing with a bum leg. That's fantastic news for a Titans team that can't afford to have their young franchise QB go down with a serious injury this early into the season.

Bad News for Titans: Your football team sucks. You just got shellacked by a team that wasn't playing good football coming into this game. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Carolina Panthers (5-0): 27    Seattle Seahawks (2-4): 23

Good News for Panthers: YOU'RE STILL UNDEFEATED!!!!!!

Bad News for Panthers: Of all the undefeated teams left, the Panthers are probably the least scary. That's not a slight on Carolina at all, it's just the truth. Offensively, this team is Cam Newton and Greg Olsen. That's pretty much it. The team lacks a true #1 WR due to Kelvin Benjamin's injury and if something happens to either Newton or Olsen, I'd be scared if I was a Panthers fan. Defensively though. ::insert thumbs up emoji::

Good News for Seahawks: Hey, look at that! Jimmy Graham finally showed up! It's amazing what happens when use a guy correctly, isn't it?

Bad News for Seahawks: The bandwagon is dying.

San Diego Chargers (2-4): 20     Green Bay Packers (6-0): 27

Good News for the Chargers: Philip Rivers continues to be the most under-appreciated QB in the NFL. Yes, I know the Chargers lost....but Rivers is freaking amazing people. What did he do this week? Oh, he just threw the ball 65 times for 500+ yards and almost beat the Packers at Lambeau. Can you imagine if Rivers played on a team like the Bengals? That would be unreal. I know I have a little bit of a man-crush on Rivers, but that's just because I don't think most football fans comprehend just how good this guy is. Maybe it's because he plays for the Chargers?

Bad News for the Chargers: Melvin Gordon continues to be shockingly underwhelming so far this season. The Chargers used a high draft pick on a running back because they wanted to give Rivers some help on that side of the ball. So far, Gordon hasn't really panned out quite the way San Diego wanted him to. He was awful against the Packers and I don't know if he's going to improve anytime soon.

Good News for the Packers: YOU'RE STILL UNDEFEATED!!!!!!

Bad News for the Packers: Rivers just lit up your secondary for 500+ yards. That's a problem. If you don't think it's going to be a problem, think again. You know who the Packers are probably going to have to face in the playoffs? Guys like Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, or Ben Roethlisberger. You don't think one of those guys can carve up this secondary like Rivers just did? Think again.

Baltimore Ravens (1-5): 20    San Francisco 49ers (2-4): 25

New England Patriots (5-0): 34    Indianapolis Colts (3-2): 27

Good News for Patriots: YOU'RE STILL UNDEFEATED AND ARE THE BESTEST TEAM IN THE WORLD!!!!

Bad News for Patriots: Nothing. Didn't you hear me? I said they were the best team in the world! Nothing can go wrong with these guys right now.

Good News for Colts: Andrew Luck is good again. After suffering through some horrendous first few weeks of the season, Luck is back people! I had no doubts that the best young quarterback in the league would return to his gun-slinging ways, but there were some doubters out there. Andrew Luck turning into a bum? Ya.....

Bad News for Colts: THIS. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVEN TRY THIS? IT WAS THE DUMBEST PLAY CALL IN NFL HISTORY!!!

Chuck Pagano deserves to be fired. I wouldn't have said that last week. But after this? Sheesh.
