SO.........
LET'S STOP BEATING AROUND THE BUSH...........
AND............
LET'S GET READY TO.......................
FUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMBLEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Top 25 Scoreboard:
(A recap of all the action involving the top 25 teams in college football)
(1) Ohio State (2-0): 38 Hawaii (1-1): 0
Ohio State is the best team in the Nation. Hawaii looked extremely good this week fashion-wise (those retro unis were on fire), but they are not a good football team. The result? An Ohio State ass-beating. Get used to it. The Buckeyes schedule is one of the easiest schedules for a Power 5 team and these guys should cruise to a second straight CFP spot.
(2) Alabama (2-0): 37 Middle Tennessee (1-1): 10
Alabama was in control of this game throughout. A lot of SEC teams faced some adversity this week, and Alabama was not one of them. Roll Tide Roll? That's exactly what they're doing right now.
(3) Baylor (2-0): 66 Lamar (-): 31
Baylor is a fantastic offensive team. Everyone knows this. It seems like the Baylor Bears could put up 50+ points against anyone in the Nation. However, when you give up 31 points to a team like Lamar, people are going to question whether or not your team is built for a run in the College Football Playoff. The Oregon Ducks have shown over the years that a high powered offensive team can do some damage during the regular season, but they usually falter when they face a physical team that recruits extremely well when it all matters. Will the same thing happen to Baylor if they run the table? We might finally find out this season.
(4) TCU (2-0): 70 Stephen F. Austin (-): 7
TCU didn't look good last week. This week? They looked like "world beaters". I'm a little worried about these guys though in the long run. TCU's defense is quickly losing piece after piece after piece and if the trend continues, the Horned Frogs are going to have to play some offensive players on the defensive side of the ball. Football is a game of attrition, and right now....the Horned Frogs are losing that game.

(5) Michigan State (2-0): 31 (6) Oregon (1-1): 28
This was a fantastic football game. Oregon went into East Lansing, took Michigan State's best shot and almost survived. The Spartans were just a little better this year though. Michigan State is an excellent defensive team and it was asking a lot for the Ducks to have new QB Vernon Adams play in a game with that magnitude, injured, on the road, against a defense that good. Still, Oregon was a missed Byron Marshall pass away from upsetting the Spartans on the road and the Ducks have to feel good about themselves, regardless of the outcome. They are still in the hunt for a playoff spot as long as they can win out (there won't be 4 undefeated teams at the end of the year....), but they are definitely on thin ice right now. As for Michigan State, they look like a playoff team. It looks like the only thing stopping them from making an appearance in the playoffs is a little team called "Ohio State". Can we get that game on next week? I don't think I can wait.
(7) Auburn (2-0): 27 Jacksonville State (-): 20
Auburn survives the ULTIMATE scare from Jacksonville State. I personally don't know how Auburn let Jacksonville State almost take this game (the difference in talent level and coaching on each side is astronomical), but they did. I no longer have faith in Auburn being able to run the table and making an appearance in the CFP. Even if they somehow make it through the season undefeated, something tells me people are always going to go back to this game and how the Tigers needed overtime (and a few J-State mistakes in clutch time) to beat an FCS team. I expect Auburn to drop more than a few slots in the rankings this week.
(8) Notre Dame (2-0): 34 Virginia (0-2): 27
Give Virginia some credit here. They stood in the ring with Notre Dame and took their best shot and almost ended up with the win. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, their College Football Playoff run may have taken a little hit with the injury to QB Malik Zaire, but they are still talented enough to run the table and make some noise in the post-season. I'm just a little hesitant to call any team a contender still after they lose one of their top offensive players. Could be a long season in South Bend this year.
(9) UCLA (2-0): 37 UNLV (0-2): 3
UCLA looks like the best team in the PAC-12 to me at the moment (sorry USC). I picked them to win the PAC-12 this year and I'm feeling pretty good about the pick. Going in and smoking a team like UNLV is something a good team does and UCLA did it. This season is looking like the year that Jim Mora and company can finally get over that hump and UCLA could walk away with their first conference title since 1998.
(10) Florida State (2-0): 34 South Florida (1-1): 14
Florida State had a little bit of a scare when USF had the game tied at half-time, but then Dalvin Cook and the Seminoles proceeded to go off in the second-half. Cook ended up finishing with 266 rushing yards and 3 TD's as Florida State continues to cruise towards a second straight spot in the college football playoffs. So far so good.
(11) Georgia (2-0): 31 Vanderbilt (0-2): 14
Georgia is one of the top teams in the SEC. Vanderbilt is one of the worst teams in the SEC. When the two teams met on-the-field, the Georgia Bulldogs destroyed the Vanderbilt Commodores. You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out what was going to happen here....
(12) USC (2-0): 59 Idaho (0-2): 9
Football fans everywhere are drooling over USC. There's something about the Trojans play the last two weeks that has USC fans excited for football again as they honestly think they have the best team in the PAC-12 on their hands. Slow your roles, USC fans. How about you play a team that actually can give you a test on the football field before you go ahead and proclaim yourselves as the best team out West? I know you went ahead and destroyed two teams that you SHOULD HAVE destroyed and now you want credit for it, but I'm going to go ahead and wait for you to play a team that can give you a challenge before I proclaim anything. Wait and see with this USC team guys. Trust me.
(13) Clemson (2-0): 41 Appalachian State (1-1): 10
Deshaun Watson = good.
(14) Arkansas (1-1): 12 Toledo (1-0): 16
Yikes. What a miserable day for Razorbacks fans. Just when it looked like Arkansas was turning the corner as a potential CFP team (they were extremely underrated last year), they went ahead and stepped on their big toe with this loss. There's just no excuse for an SEC team that many experts consider a fringe playoff team to be losing a home game to a MAC team. No excuse. How about worrying about your own schedule instead of bitching about other people's schedules Bret Bielema? This is what is called "karma". Thanks for coming Razorbacks.
(15) LSU (1-0): 21 Mississippi State (1-1): 19
Much like Oregon/Michigan State, this was another great game. It baffles my mind how come the people who schedule college football games can't figure this out, but this is the kind of games we want to start out the season. Why must we wait for the middle of the season for good conference games or games between two teams that are both good? I'm sick of "Alabama vs. Furman and Ohio State vs. The Kids from School of Rock". Make every Power 5 team play another Power 5 team outside of their conference to start out the season. It helps EVERYONE out and would make an already amazing sport....even better. About the game though? LSU edged out a close one against the Bulldogs and I was on the edge of my seat towards the end of it. That's exactly what college football should be.
(16) Ole Miss (2-0): 73 Fresno State (1-1): 21
Guys.....Ole Miss looks really good the first two weeks of the season. Not only does the defense look extremely good, but the offense is absolutely playing out of their minds. For the second straight week, the Rebels have scored 70+ points. Can they keep the streak alive when they start SEC play next weekend against Alabama? I doubt it, but I'm excited as hell to see it happen.
(17) Oklahoma (2-0): 31 (19) Tennessee (1-1): 24
Another great game that featured two good Power 5 teams playing each other outside of their respective conferences (I'm noticing a trend here...). You have to kind of feel for Volunteers fans here. After years of mediocrity within their program, they looked to have finally turned the corner and could contend for a top spot in the SEC. They got out to a seventeen point lead against a ranked Oklahoma team and then blew it. I don't know how else to explain it, but this team obviously isn't ready for the big time yet. You're close Vols, just not close enough. As for the Sooners though? Everyone and their mother were picking TCU and Baylor to win the BIG-12, but as of right this moment, it looks like everyone overlooked Oklahoma. They could very well be the best team in the BIG-12.
(18) Arizona (2-0): 44 Nevada (1-1): 20
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
(20) Missouri (2-0): 27 Arkansas State (0-2): 20
Another "top-ranked" SEC team struggles with a team that shouldn't even be on the same field as them. BUT, the SEC is the best football conference by a mile and it's not even close. GO SEC!!!!!
(21) Utah (2-0): 24 Utah State (1-1): 14
Give Utah State a little bit of credit. They were able to give the Utes a tough match-up all-night, unfortunately for Aggies fans, your team needs to score more than just 14 points in the second quarter if it's going to beat one of the top teams in the PAC-12. I like what I've seen so far from Utah.
(22) Kansas State (2-0): 30 Texas San-Antonio (0-2): 3
I got some grief last week for including Kansas State in my top 25. Maybe the person who was complaning about my K-State ranking hasn't watched this team play football yet? Bill Snyder always has his guys ready to play and as of right now, no one is giving them the credit they deserve. Watch these guys this year. They could sneak up and sucker punch one of the top dogs in the BIG-12 and easily take their spot.
(23) Texas A&M (2-0): 56 Ball State (1-1): 23
Dear Arkansas Razorbacks,
This is what a top SEC team is supposed to do to a MAC team. Take notice.
Signed,
Texas A&M
(24) Florida (2-0): 31 East Carolina (1-1): 24
The Florida Gators were able to overcome all sorts of adversity this week (they were tackling EACH OTHER for crying out loud!) and squeak out a win against a pretty good East Carolina squad. The first two weeks of the year haven't been extremely easy for new head coach Jim McElwain, but they are getting the job done and that's really all you can ask for right now.
(25) BYU (2-0): 35 Boise State (1-1): 24
You guys see that thing in the sky waving goodbye? That's Boise State's playoff hopes taking off. Even though the Broncos were a popular team to pick in the pre-season as a non-Power 5 team that could potentially sneak into the playoffs, those dreams are dead. You're not good enough Boise State and you never will be as long as you're playing in the Mountain West. Just being honest. As for BYU, even though they are an extremely dirty team on-the-field (NUT SHOTS FOR EVERYONE!!!!), they have a legitimate chance to run the table if they can beat UCLA and Michigan on-the-road the next two weeks. Those games are going to be fun to watch. Can the Cougars do the unthinkable and sneak into the CFP?

Upsets Of The Week
(There are upsets every week in college football. These are the best upsets for this week)
-Toledo Rockets over Arkansas Razorbacks
First off, let's not beat around the bush. The Toledo Rockets are a pretty good football team, especially for a MAC team (I had them finishing the season 8-4 in the pre-season). However, there's no excuse for an SEC team that had playoff aspirations to be losing to a MAC team, regardless of who it was. Like I said earlier, the football gods weren't not happy with Bret Bielema's comments about Ohio State's schedule and they made him pay for it. Why can't that guy just ever shut up?
-Houston Cougars over Louisville Cardinals
I don't really think this was a HUGE upset, because I think the Houston Cougars are a fine little football team. I know a lot of people were high on Louisville after last week's close game against Auburn, but I think everyone found out this week that Auburn is a little overrated and maybe Louisville isn't as good as we all thought either. However, give Tom Herman some credit here. He took his non-Power 5 team into an ACC's team house and ended up with the victory. Herman's name is already being circled by Power 5 teams as a potential head coach candidate next season. Maybe Louisville is one of those teams circling his name?
-Temple Owls defeat Cincinnati Bearcats
Can we call this one an upset? I don't know. All I know is, the Temple Owls are absolutely cruising this season so far. I had Temple as an 8-4 team in the pre-season. Two of the losses I had for them were against Penn State and Cincinnati. Well, Temple has now gone ahead and started the season out 2-0 by defeating both Penn State and Cincinnati and now there are whispers about just how good they are exactly. Can Temple do the unthinkable and run the table and flirt with a potential playoff spot? Holy crap, I'm getting excited and I'm not even a Temple fan!
